What is a steam bath?

There are two types of steam baths: a gentle one at 60 degrees Fahrenheit and a very hot one at 110 degrees Fahrenheit. Generally, a steam bath at 70-80 degrees Fahrenheit is recommended. This temperature is commonly used for home steam baths.

When taking a steam bath, it is generally best to repeat the process three times. First, wash your body thoroughly, then enter the steam bath for about 10 minutes until you sweat; then steam for another 5 minutes; and finally, steam for another 5 minutes. Cold water baths, tub baths, or showers can be interspersed throughout the session. For those with weak constitutions, a first steam bath should only cost 6 cents.

As is common knowledge, the water temperature in a bathtub should not exceed 45 degrees Celsius; however, the temperature of a steam bath, even at 100 degrees Fahrenheit, is tolerable due to its lower temperature.

Although steam baths are relatively safe, it is advisable to have a medical check-up before taking one. The elderly, children, certain chronic patients, and those with significant discomfort should use this method with caution, such as those with high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, tuberculosis, or bronchiectasis.

What is the steam bath weight loss method?

Simply put, the steam bath weight loss method involves repeated steam baths at a high temperature of 90-100 degrees Fahrenheit, falling under the category of sweating-based weight loss methods.

Many Japanese people believe that steam baths are an ideal weight loss method. During vaporization, each milliliter of sweat burns approximately 0.6 calories. This type of steam bath, repeated 2-3 times, can cause a person to sweat approximately 400-500 ml. This significant expenditure of heat and sweat is sufficient to cause weight loss in obese individuals. One bath can result in a weight loss of 400-500 grams.

This type of weight-loss bath can be divided into two types. One is called an accelerated weight-loss bath, which can rapidly reduce weight and is specifically designed for athletes participating in selection competitions based on weight class, such as weightlifters.

The other type is a long-term weight-loss steam bath, suitable for individuals of different obesity levels, helping them reach their respective ideal weight.

Because athletes and obese individuals have different weight-loss goals, ages, and health conditions, the use of steam baths for weight loss also differs.

For example:

Mr. A is an athlete. He first repeatedly steamed 6 times within 60 minutes. During this period, he also took 3 bathtub baths and cold water baths. After two weeks of weight-loss steam baths, he lost 10 kilograms.

Mr. B is a 35-year-old man who is very obese, exceeding the standard weight by 24%. A doctor's examination revealed no other medical conditions. He experienced no adverse reactions to steam baths. He steamed four times within a 50-minute period.

Ms. C is a 30-year-old woman who is abnormally obese, exceeding the standard weight by 31%, and experiences significant stress. She first takes a 5-minute bath, then a 3-minute steam bath, repeating this process three times. Each time, she extends the steam bath time by 1-3 minutes.

Ms. D is an 18-year-old female student who is very obese, exceeding the standard weight by 28%, but has no other medical conditions. She only takes steam baths, repeating three times, with each session lasting 10-15 minutes, resulting in profuse sweating.

Ms. B, C, and D have consistently used steam baths for weight loss, 2-3 times a week, aiming to lose one kilogram per week, or four kilograms per month. They also combined this with dietary restrictions and exercise, achieving satisfactory results.
