Part Two: The Mechanism of Qigong for Weight Loss and its Difference from Simple Dieting
(I) The Mechanism of Qigong for Weight Loss
Obesity can be divided into two categories:
1. Simple obesity
Although this type of obesity does not involve significant morphological changes in the neuroendocrine system, it is accompanied by impaired metabolic regulation.
2. Secondary obesity
This type of obesity is often accompanied by other diseases, such as pituitary obesity; functional or organic excessive insulin secretion leading to hypoglycemia, stimulating appetite, causing overeating and inducing pancreatic obesity; hypogonadism obesity caused by gonadal insufficiency during menopause in women and underdeveloped testes in men; hyperadrenocorticism obesity; hypothyroidism obesity, etc.
Regardless of the type of obesity, it is characterized by an increase in body fat and its deposition in certain areas, so losing weight requires burning off this excess fat.
Of course, while Qigong can be used to help with weight loss in cases of secondary obesity caused by certain diseases, the primary focus should still be on treating the underlying medical condition.
However, according to our observations, some obese individuals have lost weight and their illnesses have improved or lessened after practicing the exercises.
Simple obesity can be effectively treated by practicing Qigong for weight loss. Qigong is the most effective method for patients with simple obesity.
The Qigong weight loss therapy requires two things: practicing Qigong and dieting.
What is its mechanism?
Humans need an energy supply every day to live, work, and maintain a normal body temperature.
A person engaged in light physical labor consumes approximately 30-50 kcal/kg of body weight per day. If the person weighs 60 kg, the daily energy consumption is 1800-3000 kcal.
A person engaged in heavy physical labor consumes more than 4,000 kcal of energy for the same body weight.
When the body is fasting and resting quietly in bed, its energy consumption is minimal and relatively constant. Under these specific conditions, the energy consumption rate is called the basal metabolic rate (BMR).
The basal metabolic rate varies with age, sex, and body surface area. For normal adults in China, it is 1400–1800 kcal/24 hours.
The energy required for human survival is supplied by food. If you don't eat or eat less food every day, the energy you get from the outside world will decrease. At this time, the body's self-regulating mechanism will come into play, mobilizing its own stored energy and first consuming excess body fat, thus achieving the goal of weight loss.
However, simply dieting can cause hunger and hypoglycemia symptoms such as dizziness, palpitations, cold sweats, and weakness. In severe cases, it can even lead to hypoglycemic shock.
However, this set of qigong exercises can precisely eliminate these adverse reactions.
First, practicing Qigong for weight loss can eliminate or reduce hunger. Especially after practicing for five or six days, there is no obvious feeling of hunger even if you don't eat food.
Secondly, practicing qigong can activate the body's self-regulating mechanisms, mobilizing excess body fat as energy for daily life, work, and other activities.
If the technique is mastered well and there is enough time to practice, hypoglycemia can be completely avoided.
For some reason, after practicing for 3 to 5 days, you may experience dizziness or weakness, which are similar to hypoglycemia. However, if you persist in practicing, you will get through this day and there will be no more obvious discomfort.
(II) The difference between Qigong for weight loss and simple dieting for weight loss
1. Practicing Qigong for weight loss can significantly reduce or even eliminate the feeling of hunger caused by dieting; while dieting alone cannot eliminate the feeling of hunger and is difficult to maintain.
2. Practicing Qigong for weight loss can reduce or eliminate hypoglycemia caused by dieting. Many people have great energy and physical strength during Qigong practice. However, dieting alone can easily lead to hypoglycemia, even causing bedriddenness and hypoglycemia, making it impossible to continue.
3. Simply dieting to lose weight, if not done properly, may cause damage to the body over time; however, these problems will not occur when using Qigong to lose weight.
4. When you lose weight simply by dieting, your weight will quickly return once you stop dieting; however, when you lose weight by practicing Qigong, your weight will return slowly and by very little after you stop dieting.
If you persist in practicing the Jade Toad Absorption Technique and the Lotus Seat Technique (1-2 times a day), you can prevent your weight from rebounding.
(III) Qigong for weight loss is indeed effective
Two years of practice have proven that practicing Qigong for weight loss is not only effective and fast-acting, but also beneficial and harmless to the body.
The book "Bodybuilding and Weight Loss Qigong Therapy," published two years ago, already introduced this extensively, and more than a year of practice has further proven this point.
To give just a few examples:
1. Bai XX, male, 28 years old, 188cm tall, 119kg.
After a week of practice, my weight dropped to 110.5kg, my waist circumference decreased from 115cm to 107cm, my abdominal circumference decreased from 119cm to 108cm, and my chest circumference decreased from 114cm to 112cm.
2. Wan×, male, 32 years old, height 173cm, weight 87.5kg.
After two weeks of practice, my weight dropped to 82kg, and after one month, it dropped to 76kg, for a total weight loss of 11.5kg.
Waist circumference decreased from 98cm to 84cm, abdominal circumference decreased from 103cm to 87cm, and chest circumference decreased from 102cm to 94cm.
3. Gao ×, male, 16 years old, 170cm tall, 95kg.
After practicing for a month, my weight dropped to 82kg, a loss of 13kg.
Waist circumference decreased from 101cm to 84cm, abdominal circumference decreased from 102cm to 84cm, and chest circumference decreased from 102cm to 99cm.
Four months later, her weight dropped to 80kg, her waist circumference was 82.5cm, her abdominal circumference was 83cm, and her chest circumference was 95cm.
